The emergence of medical specialisations, also the otorhinolaryngology in the half of XIX century is disccused. The paper includes the description of contribution of Warsaw's internists and general practitioners at that time to the development of a new specialization - otorhinolaryngology. The achievements in this process of such Varsovian internists and general practitioners as Markus Apte, Bronisław Choynowski, Ferdynand G.K. Dworzaczek, Maksymilian Flaum, Mateusz Fonberg, Karol Gregorowicz, Otton Hewelke, Marian S. Jakowski, Władysław M. Janowski, Cezary Kossowski, Feliks S.K. Krajewski, Jan F. Kulesza are presented.
