The life events and the, professional and scientific activities of
Ludwik Koehler (1799-1871), an eminent Varsovian surgeon,
organizer of medical services, propagator of galvanocautery
have been outlined. Reference has been made to his active
participation in the November Insurrection. His attempts in
the treatment of deafness, surgical treatment of nasal polyps,
sarcoma of larynx, epulis, plastic surgery of lips and oral cavity,
lithiasis of sublingual salivary gland are analyzed in some detail.
