Priest Charles Michel de l’Épée (1712-1789) – the founder of dumb show teaching

The paper starts with a short history of deaf and dumb teaching
since 16th century. The dumb show teaching was pioneered
by French priest, Charles Michel de l’Épée (1712-1789). His
life, professional activity, his dilemmas, especially in Alexandra
Wolfgang’s and priest Micha³ Bohusz’s reports, are related widely.
The final lines are devoted to the influence of priest Charles
Michel de l’Épée on later process of deaf and dumb teaching.
