Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of parotid gland – case report
Monika Orzechowska, Paweł K. Burduk, Andrzej Marszałek

Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma is a rare salivary tumor. It
is predominantly localized in parotid gland. Histologically, the
tumor is characterized by a biphasic cell population represented
by myoepithelial and ductal cells. The tumors are stained with
cytokeratin and S-100 protein. The tumor is largely asymptomatic
and shows slow progression. Sometimes it could lead to facial
palsy and pain. The management of this kind of tumors is
surgery. As the cellular structure of epithelial-myoepithelial
carcinoma is non-uniform, when attempting differential analysis
also other bright cell tumours, such as pleomorphic adenoma,
myoepithelial carcinoma, mucoepidermoid carcinoma, and
adenoid cystic carcinoma should be also considered. We present
a case of a rare epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the parotid
gland and discuss the diagnostic problems.
