Rhinolaryngology in the scientific activity of Władysław Matlakowski (1851-1895)
Andrzej Kierzek

Władysław Matlakowski (1851-1895) was a versatile surgeon
at the Surgical Clinic of the Imperial Warsaw University and
the Surgical Ward of the Infant Jesus Hospital in Warsaw.
Matlakowski’s research and treatment of rhinolaryngological
diseases (such as tumour of frontal bone, rhinoscleroma,
syphilitic ulcerations of oral cavity, pharynx, nose and larynx,
scleroma of larynx, bronchial foreign bodies) are described in
some more detail. Dr Matlakowski described the first “Polish”
laryngectomy performed by Julian Kosiński. His articles were
a valuable source of information for the physicians specializing
in rhinolaryngology.
