Desloratadine in the treatment of allergic perennial rhinitis. A multicenter study in Poland

Background: Desloratadine is an antihistaminic drug representing a new generation of H1 blockers with broad antiallergic activity.
Aims: The study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of a new antihistaminic drug desloratadine in the treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis.
Methods: In 439 patients desloratadine was given orally for 28 days. The efficacy and side effects were evaluated with the use of symptom score.
Results: Desloratadine significantly diminished all symptoms and especially nasal blockade. No important side effects were revealed.
Conclusions: The results of the study show that desloratadine creates a new possibilities in the management in allergic rhinitis.
