The latex-fruit syndrome is related with the cross-reactivity between latex and the proteins of several fruits. The main allergens are class 1 chitinases and the latex allergen Hev b 6.02., however, it is possible that also other proteins are involved. Sometimes, the cross-reactivity is only manifested by positive prick tests and/or positive RAST, but frequently, various IgE-dependent symptoms are manifested. The coexistence of allergy to latex and bananas, kiwi, avocados, potatoes, tomatoes, figs, pineapples, melons, mango and edible chestnuts has been reported.
