Barbara Rogala, Mariusz Szczerbowski, Sławomir Żegleń

This review deals with recent experimental and clinical data on the role of selenium in the pathophysiology of biological processes in bronchial asthma and other pathological states. The red ox homeostasy, adequate activity of immunocompetent cells and inhibition of inflammatory mediators release are mediated by selenium?dependent proteins. This trace element seems to simultaneously influence on various stages of inflammatory response, therefore its supplementation in various diseases widely associated with immunologicall system malfunction should be considered.
