Airways resistance undergo systematic changes during respiratory cycle, according to Rohrer's equation. Time averaging may lead to misinterpretation of airways patency changes, as a portion of resistance is flow dependent. The paper presents the results of analysis of respiratory system resistance measured with the forced oscillations technique in children with bronchial asthma. Flow dependency of resistance was analysed in the course of respiration during respiratory cycle. The results show, that flow independent portion of resistance accounts for more than 50% of total resistance and can be extracted with that type of analysis. This leads to evaluation of airway patency independent of breathing pattern and allows for objective evaluation of bronchomotor tetsts results.
