This publication is a review of literature on autoimmunity phenomena associated with chronic urticaria. Two most important issues are discussed. The first is that part of chronic urticaria patients demonstrated thyroid autoimmunity with thyroid microsomal antibodies. The second issue concerns the results of investigation of autoantibodies directed against IgE and binding site for IgE on human basophils. These autoantibodies are present in distinct subset of chronic idiopathic urticaria patients. Injected intradermally they cause weal-and-flare reaction, in vitro release histamine from human basophils and thus could be pathogenic.
