Influence of atopic asthma on children's functioning in conflict situations
Anna Stańczyk, Agnieszka Tomczyk-Rusińska

Klinika Propedeutyki Pediatrii Instytutu Pediatrii AM, ul. Sporna 36/50, 91-738 Łódź

Emotional disturbance in children with asthma is frequently observed. It is believed that its manifestation depends mainly on severity and duration of the disease, and on the applied treatment methods.
The authors of the paper estimate the frequency of occurrence of emotional disturbance in a group of children with asthma. They also present an attempt to analyse factors influencing the frequency of emotional disturbance. Research was made by means of a questionnaire in which children chose one of possible solutions of presented problem situations. The obtained results were referred to the data on the course of asthma and the level of knowledge about the disease. The authors have pointed out the existence of a significant dependence of emotional disturbance on insufficient children's knowledge about the reality of their disease. Therefore it is important to stress the necessity of education in the range of basic problems connected with asthma, both for affected children and persons who take care of them.
