Food allergy – legal and social aspects

Food allergy is becoming an increasingly grave problem around the
world. Every week there are reports of severe anaphylactic reactions to
food. Actually, the victims knew about their allergies, avoided dangerous
products, but did not realize that the dish that was served to them contained
a hidden life-threatening allergen.
The aim of the study is to present the current legal situation regarding
the duty to provide the buyers with information about the contents of
allergens in products. Attention was focused on the existing Regulation
of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU), which will be soon
put into practice in Poland. It also presents the current situation in chosen
developed countries and possible measures to improve the safety and
quality of life of people struggling with food allergies.
