Cow’s milk allergy is the major allergic problem in early childhood. Guidelines
on diagnosis and management of food allergy, including milk allergy,
were published many years ago and have not changed significantly
during the last few decades. However, in clinical practice, the management
of patients remains controversial. The diagnosis of cow’s milk allergy
relies on thorough history, clinical examination and provocation test.
Skin prick tests and allergen specific IgE measurement are indicative for
IgE mediated reaction but are not sufficient for diagnosis of allergic disease.
The provocation test should be performed in medical centers and
supervised by experienced specialists.
