Impact of exercise on immune response – selected issues
Marcin Kurowski, Marek L. Kowalski

Physical exercise has a multi-directional impact on immune response
mechanisms. Regularly practiced moderate exercise stimulates immunocompetence,
whereas repeated intensive exercise may lead to increased
susceptibility to infections. Recently, the issue of influence of exercise on
immune system has been drawing much interest. This review presents
selected aspects of the influence of physical exercise of different intensity
upon humoral and cellular, innate and acquired immunity. The issue of
chronic low-grade inflammation in the airways and its possible association
with airway infection episodes has also been discussed.
