Gene expression applicability in allergy research with particular consideration of IL-4 receptor gene

The history of genetic research in allergic disorders began in middle 70.
of the last century. Until now, however, it has not been established which
genes are the most important in the promotion of atopy. Moreover, now
there are seemingly more questions than answers. The influence of the
environment exposure on the prevalence of asthma or allergic rhinitis has
altered the direction of the research. Gene-environment interaction and
gene expression profile is now the main focus of genetic studies. IL-4RA
gene is one of most promising genes in estimating susceptibility to asthma
and atopy. For many years association surveys have been conducted
in order to estimate the relation between polymorphisms within this
gene and asthma or atopy. However, there are only few studies in which
the expression profile for this gene was assessed.
