Allergy - from neonate to secondary school graduate
Hanna Szajewska

As food allergy is an increasing problem in children worldwide, numerous strategies for prevention are under investigation. Currently, in infants at high risk of atopic disease (affected parent or sibling) breastfeeding and delayed introduction of solid foods (beyond the 5th month of life), as well as dietary products with reduced allergenicity for supplementation, if needed, are recommended. These include partially and extensively hydrolysed formulas based on whey, casein or bovine collagen. Maternal dietary restrictions during lactation are not recommended. Soya based formulas are not recommended. Complementary foods should be delayed untial a child is aged ł5 m.ż.
